1896 This day marked the 106th birthday, at the Wandsworth Union infirmary, of what was said to be the country's oldest workhouse inmate, Mrs Jane Blower. Mrs Jane Blower, at the age of 106, was still active and regularly ran the length of the workhouse ward. Her son, a mere youth in his eighties, was also an inmate of the same workhouse.
