Sunday Music for the Indigent Poor by Clement Flower
The weekly magazine The Graphic carried many illustrations of the poor and homeless. This picture, by Clement Flower, and captioned Sunday Music for the Indigent Poor, appeared in 1901.
The scene depicts the dining-hall of the City Road workhouse where the National Sunday League were putting on a concert for the inmates, some of whom seem less than attentive.
