Kinellar, Aberdeenshire

As a result of a legacy, Kinellar (sometimes spelt Kinnellar) opened a parochial poorhouse in about 1864. It was locally administered rather than operating as a statutory poorhouse under the central Board of Supervision.

The exact location of the premises is unknown but census listings indicate it was near the Muir of Kinellar, to the west of Blackburn. In 1904, accommodation was available for 2 men, 3 women, and four children.

Note: many repositories impose a closure period of up to 100 years for records identifying individuals. Before travelling a long distance, always check that the records you want to consult will be available.
