Jennifer Worth - Shadows of the Workhouse

The books of Jennifer Worth, who is sadly no longer with us, have vividly chronicled London's East End in the 1950s. The TV serialisation of Call the Midwife brought her work to an even wider audience.

In 2007, I had the privilege to be asked by Jennifer Worth to take a look at a section of the forthcoming major reissue of her book Shadows of the Workhouse with regard to its accuracy relating to workhouse history. Here is her letter:
