This web site has been regularly referred to as a 'labour of love'. Beginning in 2000, its creation and development have been entirely self-funded, without the aid of any grants etc. However, the rising costs of doing the research, travelling to libraries and archives, tracking down and photographing workhouse sites across the British Isles, obtaining vintage pictures, and putting it all together online, all get increasingly more difficult to bear.
